The Thing 2011
The original Thing is near and dear to my heart because it scared the hell out of me. This one is the prequel to the Carpenter remake with the Norwegians finding the shapeshifter trapped in ice. Many of the same fear triggers are there but the masterclass vision of this impossible creature is made possible by the fx team. The plot walks in the foot steps of find the suspect that is infected but make no mistake my friend this is a good story. I thought for a while about how fast the tissue morphs and compared it to normal fast cell activity.Think about how hot a skin infection is. Rate of this cell engine with fast-moving growth would cause intense bursts of heat. Conan The Barbarian 2011
A friend said he will wait for this to come to the small screen.. Because of all the bad press this film has gotten he didn’t go to see it. The final killing blow was an old friend of ours gave a list of reasons not to see it. I love the works of Robert Howard and I saw the film before numberless grumps that have no interest in the original or inspired works could fill my mind with toxic vomit. More of a foundation than ever before was laid to make the bones of a warrior in this one. For no other reason than to see that epic character walk out of the pages you should see this movie. If you are a fan of the works of Frank Frazetta and the other artists that added to the Conan Mythos then you may see some inspired scenes. Waist deep in mire and muck walking into black chambers of living death with only a flickering torchlight and a sword. In another great moment Conan glares past the edge of his slow-moving sword creating a growing fire of fear in his foe. The story is simple An evil warlord using magick must rebuild a relic to summon his dead bride and gain more power. X-Men First Class
Before I twist your mind by ranting and raving about how much I love this movie take a quick look at the creators and the official site. (Wikipedia write up–http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_First_Class Official Site– http://www.x-menfirstclassmovie.com/ ) This film does for the X-Men what the new Sar Trek film did for Star Trek . Great character foundations that show the adult treatment it deserves! Most of all the reason Magneto is evil is played out in several stages. There in fact is a hint that this was originally written as the origin of Magneto ( this would have been the second origin the first being Wolverine) In a strange twist it seems two of the original writers (Josh Schwartz and Jamie Moss ) have been pushed aside. Could they be the script writers for the Origins Magneto script? All strangeness aside it is more than worth watching even if you end up at the cheap seats. The director and the team of writers give you credit for having a mind to understand good fiction when some would treat you like an animal that will watch anything.
