Rimworld

Rimworld

Rimworld is colony building game where a player starts a colony on a randomly generated map. This map has many variables. The game does a very good job simulating climates from tropical to desert to alpine and some in between I recommend playing hardcore as it increases the drama.

Rimworld has many parts and comes together in a strong storytelling experience. Your colonists are from various walks of life and never intended to be space colonists. Some are pyromaniacs for example. They won’t just start fires at random, they wait until something is bumming them out and then they go on a rampage starting fires. Of course, this affects people on a forest map more than a desert map with no trees. The difference in personality traits is varied and interesting.

So you have cool maps, and cool colonists, add in a compelling base building experience and the game gets even better. I really like the base building. You are not limited to a cookie cutter base and you can design it the way you see fit. For example, I built a medical kit hydroponics lab. I trade with space traders and land traders using medical kits as barter. It’s been working out nicely. I also have a load of medical kits when I need them. There are many businesses you can build as time goes on. Obvious ones are weapons, drugs labs and pig farms.

You have good maps, complex colonists, and base-building now add a really nice combat engine! This is what separates Rimworld from the competition in base building. The combat engine is very well done. Pistols, rifles, grenades, rocket launchers. The list just goes on and on. It’s really fun.

If all that isn’t enough you also get custom storytellers that mess you over. Sure they can do cool stuff as well. Pick a storyteller and difficulty of that storyteller and things get interesting. I won’t give you an example because I don’t want to ruin any part of this game for you.

All these parts come together into an amazing game. It isn’t over yet. Rimword has full steam workshop support. You can download many different mods and change it up. I am running a few minor mods. Xevia’s Rimhair, Trading Spot, [T] Expanded Crops, Medical Kit Crafting, Hospitality A15.

One caveat on Mods is Rimworld is in Early Access, when updates come out it can break mods. I don’t want to get hooked on mods so I only use simple ones. There are a couple of mods I really want to try. Zombie Apocalypse and Medieval. Maybe I will try for a Medieval Zombie Apocalypse! Not sure if they work together yet. The sky is the limit depending on how the mods work.

I just want to go on the record and fully endorse you getting a copy of Rimworld. I requested a review copy and never got an email back. I ended up buying it and then purchase it again for my wife. She is completely hooked on it when she has time off.

$30.00 is a bit expensive for a game. I was also weary about buying at that price. I have found Rimworld is worth the expense if you looking for quality entertainment.

Still playing Rocksmith 2014

I am still into playing Rocksmith 2014. This maybe the perfect game for me. I always enjoyed music but it was just one of those things I stopped spending money on. Now that I purchased a stratocaster and Rocksmith 2014 I have really been into music in general. I won a Mustang IV amp, an acoustic guitar at an auction. I set out repairing the acoustic and it’s looking good now. I should be able to start playing it soon.

I did pick up a few games at the steam sale. Dragons Dogma, Thea the Awakening, Endless Legend with all expansions. I also picked up the Tuesday’s Gone, Modern Day Cowboy, Little Wing, Foo Fighters II, and The Libertarians song packs for Rocksmith 2014.

I have come a long way playing guitar. I know chords, can bar chords, and I can even pick to an extent. I never thought I would be able to do any of it. Anyway much love and keep on rocking!

Epic Progress in Rocksmith 2014

I have many new games and old alike. Recently I have only been playing with Rocksmith 2014. It’s one of those games you get and put down after a while and forget about. I can’t tell you how it’s change my life. After my daughter moved out I didn’t hear anymore piano. I missed that about her. Anyway in order to hear music I decided I needed to learn to play. I got my Mexican Fender Stratocaster back from my son. Plugged it in and fired up Rocksmith 2014.  That was precisely thirty seven hours ago thanks to steams game tracking. I have made so much progress in that thirty seven hours. I will be playing guitar for the rest of my life. I just unlocked the achievement “I know chords” which prompted me to write this update. If you told me thirty seven hours from now you will know thirty different guitar chords I would have told you your crazy. But that is exactly what happened! At this point I can safely say if you want to learn guitar you should get Rocksmith 2014. It may not teach you everything you need to know but what it does it does well. I can say it was worth every penny I spent on it and then some. I expect i will be playing it for a long time to come.

Equipment

——————

Mexcian Fender Stratocaster : Two pickups and two humbucker pickups (paid $300 on ebay. Same guitar retails for $600 new)

Rocksmith 2014: $60.00

Guitar Strap $12.00

Guitar Stand $30.00 made a mistake here make sure you get the Hercules Stand. I am going to have to sell this one and buy the correct one soon. It will set you back $50.00

Guitar pick: not something people think about. I have a Grain .60 and I like the texture of the pick. It stays between my fingers and doesn’t move. $1.00

Total investment: Around 400 bucks.

The Mexican Stratocaster is good quality. My son just replaced mine, when I took it back, using craigslist for $225.00 so he got a better deal than me which I thought would be impossible. It’s basically identical to mine. His is red and mine is sunburst. He also got a floating bridge. Apparently he can whammy bar forwards and backwards and I can only whammy forward. His takes some tricks to tune.

I didn’t mention the fun factor of playing a guitar. It’s one of the most fun things I have ever done. I can’t wait to play in front of an audience. It may be another 100 hours before I am ready for that but I will get there someday.

New Gamersnews.com

Hello and welcome to the new setup for gamersnews.com. I have been thinking about how I could change things around while learning C# programming. I had some free time and made some changes. I hope you like the new design. I don’t think it’s finished yet so expect some more changes when I get more time. I expect I will be doing some game programming in the future as well.

Anyway please tell gamers about gamersnews.com and have a good day!
